I wrote an article for Zafigo. It's my experience on how I make friends when I travel. Solo or otherwise. In it I forgot to mention that another good way to make friends is to hit up friends you already have to see if they have friends wherever you're going. I've met so many interesting and cool people in my travels and they know people, who know people. And so it goes.

As a solo traveller, one of my priorities when I land in a new destination is to get out and make some friends. The thing about making friends in new places though is that we’re the newbie trying to get into an already established group of friends – and that isn’t always easy, though not impossible. As a slow traveller I spend at the very least one month in each location, so it’s important for me to blend in with the local culture and make friends so I don’t get lonely. Throughout the years I’ve developed a few ways to make friends that have worked for me.
